Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:

  • Every squad has only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers looking for different ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
