British Designer Antony Price, Famed for Styling Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer who crafted many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.
His reputation was built on his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."
This news arrives just weeks after he debuted his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Pioneering Career
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he started his work in clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to merge menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
In the 1990s, he began working on pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.
After a career spanning more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

The industry mourns the loss to a authentic original whose impact on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
