Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported debris fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
