Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
âI am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got significant support from the top,â the coach commented.
âIt's important to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.â
He noted, âI'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.â
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
âWe communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.â
He added, âThrough standard conversations we have I sense the trust. But I havenât spoken to them after this match yet so letâs see.â
Persistent Issues and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted known failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the clubâs predicament.
âI donât have the solutions. Honestly, I donât. I'm telling that to everybody,â the midfielder said.
âIt is not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. Iâm past being angry inside. Iâm at the point now where I simply lack the words.â
He added, âItâs hard because Iâm playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and Iâve seen this club since I was young.â
âIn a long, long time, I havenât experienced a Reds side going through a period such as this with performances this poor.â
Jones finished, âHowever we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, weâre always going to fight.â
âWe will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.â
âAt this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.â
