The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller That Blends Survival Horror with Social Deduction Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a young woman containing several personalities inside her must escape from a maze of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Within her reside four distinct personas, all possessing their own fears and drives. These souls can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the action takes place within a creepy medical facility, while other scenes show the main character navigating a desolate chapel.

A World of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can activate something primal within us. This game delves into that concept — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic involves managing whichever soul surfaces at a particular moment. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's fears become amplified and attack the protagonist one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms where their heads should be. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," explains a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player believes a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one remaining might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
