The President Invites Loved Ones of Attacked Military Personnel to the White House
Former President Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Tragic Shooting
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have been held in their honor.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed journalists. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Community members came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“Sarah was the individual that educators desired. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to help others.”
Memorial details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Steps and Government Changes
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy led the government to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop providing entry permits to possessors of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey stated on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told a news show that she aimed to meet with the family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” he informed the crowd at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
