Tragedy Hits as Inadvertent Explosion at Law Enforcement Facility in Indian-administered Kashmir Claims Nine Deaths
A devastating detonation at a security post in the Kashmir region under Indian control has caused the deaths of nine persons and injuries to thirty-two additional people, according to police declarations.
The occurrence took place when a cache of impounded blast substances unintentionally detonated during handling procedures.
Chronology of Incidents
The blast happened on Friday night at the Nowgam police station, where explosive materials seized from Faridabad in the northern territory of Haryana province were being stored temporarily.
Regional security director announced that the blast materials were scheduled for technical investigation when a "deeply regrettable" accident during management caused their explosion at approximately 23:20 in the evening.
Official Declarations
Security forces verified that this was an "inadvertent blast" and as opposed to a terrorist attack. "Different conjectures regarding the reason of this occurrence is unneeded," highlighted the security director during a journalist meeting.
The police station experienced severe damage from the explosion, with adjacent buildings also being affected by the intense detonation.
Consequences and Victims
Multiple vehicles were "consumed by fire and transformed into ashen remains, with debris scattered across the area," according to official reports.
"The power of the detonation was such that some physical fragments were recovered from close-by residences, approximately 100-200 meters distant the security post," stated an official source.
Most of the victims were security officials, along with technical investigation team, two evidence documentation specialists, and a garment worker who was accompanying the group.
Government Response
The region's Lieutenant Governor expressed commiserations and declared that an inquiry had been ordered into the tragic incident.
"I have commissioned a investigation to determine the origin of the unintentional blast. Deeply anguished by the death of valuable individuals due to exceptionally devastating inadvertent detonation at Nowgam security post in Srinagar city. My sympathies to the bereaved families. I pray for speedy recovery of the harmed," wrote the leader on social media.
